Richard Dice
BSc, MBA

In some ways it's a bit surprising that Richard didn't start
programming computers until as late as 1983 as he had had a few
opportunities before that coming from the computer hobby kit community
in the late 1970s. But once he started, he didn't look back. He was
introduced to Unix, Linux, the Internet and Open Source programming
during his undergraduate years in the early 1990s.
Richard took these skills into the working world after school in a
wide range of environments: through leading a team in developing an
Intranet for MCI, working at a dot-com style startup, and working in
small consulting teams for a wide variety of clients.
These days, Richard focuses mainly on programming and systems integration using
Open Source technologies like Linux, Apache, and MySQL. Richard is heavily
involved in the Perl community, both as an expert Perl programmer and community
activist, including having organized the conference on Perl programming, YAPC North America 2005. Richard is now the
President of The Perl
Foundation
In addition to his pure technical work Richard is also a skilled and
experienced presenter and communicator regarding technology and Open
Source topics. He has given IT corporate training at Intel, Motorola
and Unisys where he would teach their engineers his techniques and
approaches to Open Source technologies. He has delivered papers at
conferences across North America. Richard is also the author of
several books on Perl, web programming and database integration. He
wrote an influential series of articles on web/database integration
with Open Source technologies for Webmonkey, a technology resource
website that is a division of Wired Magazine.
Richard is now based in Toronto, Canada, and consults extensively
across North America. He is known for his communication skills, and
in particular is valued for his ability to translate complex technical
information into business terms.
Richard holds a Bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics from the University
of Western Ontario and a Masters in Business Administration from the Rotman
School of Management at the University of Toronto.
Richard Dice is our lead for projects in the finanical sector. We also call
upon him technically when a client's platform involves heavy use of Perl.
